The video begins with birdsong and shots of light through trees in a forest. As a man’s voice begins to speak, his words appear on screen, providing a definition for biophilia. After the definition, the speaker is revealed via an interview shot. A title card identifies him as Dr. Brent Bauer, a physician with the Mayo Clinic. As Dr. Bauer speaks, we quickly cut through shots of people eating, working, and living indoors, emphasizing how little time most people spend outdoors.
Dr. Brent Bauer
The term biophilia is the concept that humans are wired to have a connection with nature. Decades of research showed that nature positively affects health. Yet most people spend 90% of their time indoors.
Shots of people in nature, shift to shots of greenery in hospital and work settings. A shot of a window with good natural light slides to reveal a tree, before cutting to a room crafted out of wooden building materials with good natural light.

Studies also show that biophilic design used at hospitals, home or work can improve health and productivity. This includes natural light, views of trees and using building materials like wood or stone.
Dr. Bauer addresses the camera directly, before visuals of hiking and running hands over long grass are shown. We see a shot of a man looking at nature paintings in a gallery, followed by a shot of a young woman placing earbuds in her ears.

More doctors are writing prescriptions to spend time in nature to help with anxiety, depression, high blood pressure and other conditions. Just looking at images of an outdoor scene and listening to nature sounds can help.
The video fades to black to emphasize the nature sounds. When the video appears again, we are back in nature, with text on screen emphasizing Dr. Bauer’s words. We see moss covered trees, followed by a forest road with a man walking down it into the distance. The Thorne logo appears on screen alongside a call to visit Thorne.com.

Going outside is important. Aim for 120 minutes a week. Even a few minutes a day is beneficial.
