Ready to get away from it all? Who isn’t! As a travel influencer and blogger (and now your travel guide), it’s all part of my day’s work – from planning, preparation, and packing, to making last-minute arrangements – like who’s going to water my plants for two weeks!?

I am very fortunate to be able to travel the world, and I like to think I have acquired some wisdom over the years. For example, when my husband Danny and I go somewhere, we plan our destination based on the season (who needs to experience winter twice a year?) and the type of experience we want, whether that’s exploring a city, trekking through the great outdoors, or bumming at the beach.

But maybe the most important lesson I’ve learned is that travel can be hard on your health, especially your hydration, stress levels, sleep, and the big one for me – gut health! The good news is there are some awesome Thorne nutritional supplements you can take with you to support your health and wellness. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy your next adventure with these five travel tips.

1. Travel is hard on your gut. Plan accordingly!

As I mentioned in my recent Q&A with Thorne, gut health was such an issue before I started taking nutritional supplements! I had some really awful stomach aches when traveling. I would take a medication to help it go away, but that didn’t keep it from coming back.

I knew I needed a solution, so I started researching the best gut health products and read some customer reviews. That’s when I decided to take Thorne’s Gut Health Test.

Needless to say, I made the right move because my gut health test results have made a huge difference! The test was a great way to learn where my gut health is lacking and what to do to help, from lifestyle changes to the supplements I now take every day, which include Thorne’s EnteroMend®, L-Glutamine, Berberine, and Bacillus Coagulans. No one wants to feel sick or stressed while traveling. So, if there’s one thing that travel has shown me, it’s how important it is to consistently work toward better gut health, so that when I am out and about, I’m still feeling good!

2. Listen to your travel guide and the locals – they usually know best!

Once when I was in Indonesia and staying on a boat for the week, I suddenly got sick with a terrible cold or the flu. I couldn’t get out of bed, and I was so upset because there was so much to see that day.

The boat’s captain suggested that I get out in the ocean and let the saltwater help heal me, and it actually worked! I was so thankful I started to feel better because there is nothing worse than missing out on seeing the things you’ve spent so long looking forward to.

3. Say “yes” to new experiences, but also say “yes” to consistency.

When eating when traveling, Danny and I love that each place offers something fresh and different. We try to stick to whatever is popular locally, which tends to be something like fresh fish, meat, fruit, and vegetables!

While I enjoy adventurous eating, I also know how important it is to be consistent. When I travel, my stomach is likely to get upset because of new foods. That’s why it’s important for me to make sure I have my gut health supplements from Thorne!

4. Get creative with your workouts.

Nothing motivates me like a group exercise class! Normally my workout routine includes classes like barre, Pilates, and hot yoga each week.

But when I can’t easily do a workout class, Danny and I make sure we are constantly moving. For example, I love walking around a city rather than taking a taxi because there are so many interesting places you might come across. So, we walk a ton!

5. Be grateful for the gift of good health!

Because of traveling, I realize how much we take our health for granted. I have seen so many people who are not as fortunate as we are, and who will not be able to experience what we can. I know now how important it is to make my health my top priority.

And although traveling brings me the sense of adventure and wonder, being home brings me comfort and peace. This balance makes me grateful for the amazing life I have.
