If you had to summarize the year NBA Champion and Olympian Jrue Holiday has had it would be this: New teams, same outcome.

Last season started as a chaotic one for Holiday; in September 2023, just a few weeks before the start of the season, the Milwaukee Bucks traded him to the Portland Trail Blazers before he finally landed with the Boston Celtics a few days later.

Despite all the uncertainty, the move paid off for Holiday, who quickly found his groove with the Celtics and led them to the NBA title, the team’s first since 2008. His summer of success only continued when he won gold in Paris.

Earning these two pieces of hardware in the same year is quite an accomplishment, but it’s just a repeat of 2021 for Holiday. That summer, after winning the title with the Milwaukee Bucks, he flew to Tokyo and secured his first gold medal – within just two and a half weeks.

“It’s all been such a blessing,” says Holiday. “Winning a championship in Boston and a gold medal for my country was very special. Both symbolize personal success, but it wouldn’t be a reality without the collective effort of everyone involved.”

Supporting his longevity goals

After a whirlwind summer, it’s time to refocus on what’s ahead, says Holiday, who recently kicked off his 16th season with the Boston Celtics.

As Holiday approaches the list of longest basketball careers in history, healthy aging is at the top of his mind. But between his continued success and commitment to good health, he’s more in tune with his body now than ever before.

When he first joined the league, Holiday says his focus was primarily on physical preparation so he could compete every night. While that is still important, as he’s gotten older, he’s placed more emphasis on recovery by adjusting his diet, sleep schedule, and supplement routine.

“Longevity, especially in the NBA is about taking care of my body in every aspect so that I can compete at the highest level,” Holiday says. “Recovery is just as important as the work you put in on the court.”

For Holiday, that means leveraging wellness practices from mindfulness to cryotherapy. He also leans on Thorne to support every aspect of his game: Thorne’s Creatine for muscle performance, Amino Complex for muscle repair, Multi-Vitamin Elite for athletic performance, and Glutathione-SR for overall health.*

And to prepare for Paris, he leaned on Thorne for additional support. To help his body shift to the new time zone, he took Melaton-3™ as well as RecoveryPro® to promote restful sleep and nighttime muscle recovery.*

“To perform my best on the court, I have to prioritize my health and maintain a healthy lifestyle off the court,” Holiday says. “Part of that includes getting the support I need with Thorne.”

A holiday with the Holidays

While Holiday’s summer was certainly an anomaly from his regular schedule, he’s still one busy guy. And with basketball in full swing, the holiday season is an especially hectic time of year for him. But he doesn’t let work get in the way.

“Family comes first, so I make sure that I carve out time for them no matter how busy things get,” Holiday says. “And I’ve learned not to be afraid of leaning on your support system, as it takes a team to balance everything.”

Easier said than done, yes, but Holiday does his best to stay organized and set his priorities. And during a time of year that’s all about love and community, setting a good example for his kids is high on that priority list.

Holiday and his family take the time to give back through the Jrue and Lauren Holiday Fund, a non-profit that directly supports Black-owned businesses, non-profits, and HBCUs.

“The greatest blessing in my life is my family, and being able to share this life with them is the best gift I could ask for,” Holiday says. “It is truly a special time of the year to reflect and be grateful for how fortunate we are.”
