They say the best defense is a good offense, but in the case of Jrue Holiday – point guard for the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks – you could reverse the phrase and it would still make sense.

Between the recent 2023 NBA All-Star Game and his regular season schedule, Holiday has been one busy guy. But thankfully, he took some time to chat with us about life as a Thorne Ambassador and how our supplements fuel his success both on and off the court.

Established brand, veteran player

Anyone who knows Holiday knows how explosive the summer of 2021 was for his game. In July, he helped lead the Milwaukee Bucks to their first NBA title in 50 years. Days later, Holiday flew to Tokyo for the 2020 Summer Olympics, where he won a gold medal with Team USA.

All within just two and a half weeks – and all while taking Thorne supplements.

“That's also another reason why for me, psychologically, I've always taken Thorne – I’ve seen the results they’ve given me,” Holiday says. “But for so many years now I've taken them, and they have definitely kept me healthy and on the court.”

Now in his 14th season, Holiday appreciates his health more than ever. Performance and recovery are two of the biggest reasons why he works with Thorne – so he can continue to play at his peak.

Looking back, Holiday says being able to withstand the demands of the game is “a blessing,” especially when he considers his other full-time job – being a dad.

“I have kids. I love to go outside and play with them and [it’s important] really just to stay healthy, not only for basketball but honestly for my everyday life,” Holiday says.

He first learned about Thorne through his personal trainer, Mike Guevara, who has worked with other NBA athletes, tennis pros, and NFL football players. Since then, Holiday has incorporated Thorne supplements into his daily routine.

Some of his favorites include Basic Nutrients 2/Day, which he takes in the morning and before bed, and Creatine. Holiday also mixes  Amino Complex and Whey Protein Isolate into a shake after a game or workout. Beyond his daily routine, Holiday has other go-to's, including the Travel Bundle for road games and Curcumin Phytosome for joint stiffness.*

All of Holiday’s favorite products are a part of Thorne’s NSF Certified for Sport® product line. The NSF certification means that each product has been tested to ensure the absence of more than 200 substances banned by major athletic organizations, so professional athletes can have peace of mind knowing that nothing on the banned list will show up on a drug test.

In addition to the NBA, several other sports organizations, like the NFL, NASCAR, NHL, MLB, PGA, LPGA, UFC, and WTA, officially recognize and recommend NSF International’s Certified for Sport program.

“We want healthy people in the world”

Like Guevara, Holiday has been spreading the word. Over the years, he’s recommended Thorne to his fellow teammates, as well as other athletes, including his wife, former professional soccer player and two-time Olympic gold medalist, Lauren Holiday.

“I do try to get her involved in my things,” he says with a laugh. “But honestly, I think to be able to have products like that, that are clean and healthy, they're good for your body and they’re great products. So why not use them?”

The fact that other professional athletes and Olympians include Thorne in their daily routines means a lot to Holiday. It shows that Thorne supplements are clean and effective, which is essential for any athlete, he says.

But the NSF certification isn’t just for active professional athletes who are being tested throughout the year. In addition to his friends and family who have started taking Thorne, Holiday says that several former teammates who used Thorne still do now in retirement.

“You only want to put the best in your body as an athlete and as a person in general,” he says. “It’s not just the athlete who needs them.”

Off the court, Jrue and Lauren Holiday prioritize the health and well-being of others in the community by giving back. Most recently, they partnered with Kohler and the Milwaukee Bucks Foundation to repair and renovate three domestic violence and homeless shelters in the Milwaukee area.

In July 2020, he pledged the remainder of his NBA salary for the season, totaling more than $5 million, to create the Jrue and Lauren Holiday Fund with the goal of empowering communities by directly supporting Black-led non-profit organizations and programs.

That same year, he worked with Thorne to create face masks highlighting the Black Lives Matter movement with 100 percent of the proceeds supporting the Jrue and Lauren Holiday Fund, a collaboration that Thorne has been proud to be a part of.

“We want healthy people. We want healthy people in the world,” Holiday says. “Thorne is definitely one of those brands that I’ll use for the rest of my life.”
